International Student Assistance

To ensure a smooth transition, Taylor Business Institute provides a range of services to help international students adapt comfortably and confidently to life in Chicago.

Work Authorization

International students enrolled in associate degree programs have the opportunity to apply their classroom learning through paid work experiences. Eligible students may participate in Curricular Practical Training (CPT) during their studies or Optional Practical Training (OPT) after graduation. International students may also be eligible to work up to 20 hours per week on campus.

Complete the application as accurately and completely as possible, either online or on campus at the Admissions Office.

Schedule an Appointment

After submission, applicants schedule an appointment for an in-person interview with an admissions staff member. Applicants under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Applicants seeking admission to TBI must set an appointment at the college for a face-to-face interview with the college’s admission staff. Please pick a time and date that best suits you. If you are a minor (not 18 yrs old) please bring in your parent or legal guardian with you for this appointment.

Interviewing Process

Applicants meet with an International Admissions Representative to discuss programs and policies supporting international students. Those who decide to proceed complete the Enrollment Agreement, receive the College Catalog, and schedule an appointment with the Designated School Official (DSO) to finalize I-20 documentation.

Decision

The Education and International Departments review each application. Accepted students receive an official acceptance letter, Form I-20, and an invitation to attend orientation.

Things To Know First

The Common Application is required for all applicants to Taylor Business Institute’s degree programs, ESL certificate, or USMLE preparation program. Any applicant who is not a U.S. citizen or permanent resident will be classified as an international student. Applicants must be at least 17 years old by the first day of classes.

International students must provide proof of education equivalent to a U.S. high school diploma, verified through a credential evaluation by a NACES-accredited agency. Applicants with prior postsecondary coursework must submit official transcripts for all prior studies. While TOEFL scores are not required, students must achieve acceptable results on Taylor Business Institute’s admissions and placement examinations.
