Curricular Practical Training (CPT) and Optional Practical Training (OPT) Opportunities for Taylor Business Institute students.

Taylor Business Institute, in all of its associate degree programs, offers its international students the option to enhance the skills they learn in class through paid work experience. There are two kinds of paid work experiences for international students. They are Curricular Practical Training (CPT) and Optional Practical Training (OPT).

Curricular Practical Training (CPT):

This paid work option allows students, after completing one academic year of study at the college, and who can demonstrate that they are making satisfactory academic progress and maintaining regular attendance, the opportunity to work in the United States. These students would work in an area related to their field of study in a supervised setting approved by the college. The college requires all student work sites to have either a signed cooperative agreement or provide a letter attesting to the student’s employment. These positions are part-time (generally not exceeding 20 hours) and require the student to remain in college while they are working. Students are also expected to continue maintaining good attendance and continue making satisfactory academic progress each quarter until they graduate.

Optional Practical Training (OPT)

Students who graduate from one of Taylor Business Institute’s associate degree programs may be eligible to work for up to one year through Optional Practical Training (OPT).To be employed in an OPT work experience the student must graduate in their course of study and work in their related major. The college will maintain the international graduate as their student through the completion of their OPT experience.

International Students interested in a CPT and/or OPT work experience may contact the International Student Advisor, the Dean of Academic Affairs or Director of Career Services.
