General Admission Policy

The school Taylor Business Institute offers equal opportunities without distinction or discrimination because of race, color, sex, sexual orientation, religion, age, national origin, physical or mental handicap, or veteran status, in any of its academic programs or activities.

Admission Procedure

Each application for admission is reviewed , together with the applicant’s high school transcript or high school equivalency certification, test score(s) from the Career Program Assessment Test (CPAT), and any other pertinent information submitted by the applicant , is reviewed. The Dean of Academic Affairs , who is the Admissions Committee Chairperson, has the responsibility of reviewing and approving applications for admission to insure proper qualifications in accordance with Admission Standards. In some cases, as indicated under Admission Standards, an applicant will require the approval of the Admissions Committee. Applicants who are rejected for admission are notified promptly, and any fees paid with the application are refunded.

If a student needs certification of high school equivalency, the student can take the General Education Development Test (G.E.D.), which is a battery of tests administered by the Educational Service Region, and which provides adults an opportunity to receive certification indicating equivalency to a high school diploma.

Admission Standards

Associate Degree Programs

These programs are approved by the Illinois Board of Higher Education and the Accrediting Council of Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS) and lead to an Associate of Applied Science Degree.

Applicants , who are beyond compulsory school age, and are high school graduates or the equivalent may be admitted into the following A.A.S. degree programs if they satisfy the following admission requirements:

Medical Biller Specialist Program

General Education Course Placement Testing

In addition, all applicants pursuing an Associate of Applied Science degree are required to take the Accuplacer test to further assess their students’ skills in math and writing.

Writing Placement :

Reading Comprehension and Sentence Skills: an applicant must score 55 or above on the Reading Comprehension and 60 or above on the Sentence Skills sections of the Accuplacer test to be placed in ENG 101 English Composition and/or SPH 101 Speech.

An applicant who scores below 55 on the Reading Comprehension and below 60 on the Sentence Skills sections of the Accuplacer test will be placed in COM 100 Basic Writing and Oral Communications (a prerequisite communications class).

Math Placement:

An applicant must score 34 or above on the Arithmetic section of the Accuplacer test to be placed in MAT 119 Intermediate Algebra.

An applicant who scores below 34 on the Arithmetic section of the Accuplacer test will be placed in MAT 100 Foundation of Mathematics (a prerequisite mathematics class)

COM 100 Basic Writing and Oral Communications and MAT 100 Foundations of Mathematics are developmental courses and do not count as credit for an associate degree.

These programs are approved by the Illinois State Board of Education and the Accrediting Council of Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS) and lead to a diploma. Applicants who are beyond compulsory school age , and are high school graduates or the equivalent may be admitted into the following diploma programs if they satisfy the following admission requirements:
